Description
Although not a restaurant in the common sense it did offer food to customers and Horn & Hardart established the first food service automats. It began on a small scale with only a counter with 15 stools and soon grew into a chain to over a hundred locations. One reason for the success was the fact they brewed their own brand of coffee and in 1898 established the Horn & Hardart Baking Company. With the fast influx of other restaurants in the area and poor planning the last restaurant was closed in 1991.

Cruising through many states of America, remnants of eateries of the past can still be found. Travel back to a stage in time with me to rekindle the memories of food franchises and the lost cuisine of bygone days. We can remember the presence of these dining experiences in their heyday long ago, but still etched in moments and recollections.
