    Description
    The Fred Harvey Company was the owner of the Harvey House chain of restaurants, hotels and other hospitality industry businesses alongside railroads in the Western United States established in 1876 by Fred Harvey. The began in 1876 from the humble beginnings of of three railroad eating houses located at Wallace, Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, and Hugo, Colorado, on the Kansas Pacific Railway. Fred Harvey was responsible for opening the first restaurant chain in the U.S.and also became pioneers in promoting tourism in the American Southwest in the late 19th century. The original Fred Harvey Company, and affiliations with the railroad, lasted until 1968 when it was purchased by the Amfac Corporation of Hawaii.
