    Geri's Hamburgers

    Date Established
    Location
    1962
    Rockford, Illinois

    Description
Another fast food chain in 1962 began as a supposed competitor to McDonald's in the Illinois area operated by a former vice president of McDonald's called Geri's Hamburgers. With a different approach to marketing as it offered very little seating and geared the franchise to take-out in the beginning but later added more for inside dining as well. Another aspect of this chain was the introduction of mascots like others which further caused a bit of rivalry and confusion. In 1981 the company ceased operations, but several stores continued to operate independently and the last Geri's was in Beloit, Wisconsin, which closed in 1999.
