    Location
    1956
    Winter Haven, Florida

    Description
The idea to open the first Burger Queen near Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven, Florida in 1956 was from the combined effort of Harold and Helen Kite. The restaurant was a complete success but not without hardships as with the too-rapid expansion of more locations in Florida and the constant battle with the Dairy Queen franchise over using "queen" in the name the decision to sell the company was the only viable option. The new owners of James Gannon and brothers George and John Clark chose to add more locations in Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee and with Kentucky eventually becoming the corporate headquarters. In 1981 the decision was to change the name to Druther's and finally purchased by International Dairy Queen Inc in 1996.
